The ecological crisis (e.g. climate change, massive loss of biodiversity)-for which certain human activities are responsible-represents a major threat to all forms of life (GIEC, 2022). Confronted with this threat, individuals feel different emotions, called "eco-emotions" (Cianconi et al., 2023): fear, sadness, anger, guilt, etc. Most current research focuses on the consequences of these eco-emotions, and more specifically of what researchers call "eco-anxiety" (e.g., Pihkala, 2020), on behavior (e.g., Whitmarsh et al., 2022) and mental health (for review, Boluda-Verdú et al., 2022). Early findings thus suggest that the more emotional a person feels about the ecological crisis, the more they will adopt pro-environmental behaviours and the greater the impact on their mental health (e.g. sleep disorders, concentration difficulties).

The aim of this thesis project is to gain a better understanding of what characterizes eco-emotions and their relationship with behavior and mental health.
